Andres's had been so excited his team was so close to winning there soccer match and that would of made them won championship! The first time in three years. They were so darn close but then someone from the other team had kicked a ball right into Andres's gut. He had caught the ball but flew back into the net falling on the ground passing out. He would not wake up so they had to call 911 and they soon rushed him to the hospital. Little did everyone know it was not just going to be a concussion but much worse.
The doctors had been checking Andres out and found a lump and then they had to start checking him some more not telling the family anything or him anything just encase it was not cancer. But the doctors had done enough research now and everyone knew it was cancer but they didn't know how to tell them this because the Stone's were well known in town and good people. Final a doctor walked out of Andres's room where he was still asleep they had put him down and into the waiting room glancing around at the stone family he frowned and spoke up. " Your son, should be up soon." he paused. " But theres something you should all know.." another pause."Andres has cancer.. we have not told him this we thought that maybe someone from the family should tell him. We are so sorry about this. But it looks like if he has surgery and starts chemo he may survive. Theres a 80 percent chance. It looks like we caught it on time.." he stopped glancing around. " The family is free to see him now.."

Esperanza had been at home when she’d received the phone call that Andres had been admitted to hospital, she usually attended his matches however this morning work had detained her and she had stayed at home. As she drove towards the hospital her mind raced Eric had sounded quite confident on the phone that Andres would be fine and that they where just waiting for him to come around but Esperanza couldn’t help but worry. She guessed it was a mothers right to worry too much.
She pulled up in the visitor’s car park and turned the engine off glancing quickly in the rear view mirror to check that she didn’t look completely terrible. As she found her way to the correct floor she tried to calm herself down, he was fine just a concussion. She reminded herself when Andres came around that she wasn’t going to let him out of her sight for a long time…what if there where after affects and something else happened?
She spotted Eric and the rest of the family waiting in a private waiting room; this worried her more why would a less serious case have a private waiting room? She walked quickly towards Eric pushing her blonde hair impatiently out of her face as she searched his to see if there had been any news. She wrapped her arms around Eric’s neck seeking reassurance that everything was going to be aright she knew he’d been knocked out and that concussion was certain but why would they be testing him so much if it was nothing.
She only parted from him when the doctor entered the room she placed her hand around Erics waist and waited impatiently for the doctor to speak. As the doctor spoke Esperanza’s heart plummeted she felt as if she’d fallen 8 story’s and nothing the doctor said seemed to make sense.
… he may survive”
Those two words stood out to Esme more than the others ‘may survive’ how on earth could a perfectly healthy boy suddenly become so ill…there had been no signs, it made no sense. Esperanza only realized that tears where running down her face when she tasted the salt on her lips. Her beautiful baby boy having to go through chemo this wasn’t right it wasn’t fair.
“And your sure…the tests, they are conclusive?” she asked her voice trembling as she spoke.

Will you stay with me? Will you be my love Among the fields of barley? And you can tell the sun in his jealous sky when we walked in fields of gold
10 fingers and 10 toes, that what every parent looks for. 10 fingers and 10 toes. Andres had big beautiful eyes like his mom and screamed his head off but all babies due that. Eric held him and his brother in his arms. Than Eric blinked and they were all grown up now. He wished they didn't have to grow up and they could stay small forever. Eric come to terms with the whole growing up thing. Now his son, his baby boy was sick. And he wished Andres was still a baby, so he could pick up in his arms. Make it all go away, Eric spent early an hour trying to work up the nerve to tell Esperanza. He finally picked up the phone, calling his wife. Eric kept himself claim and made it sound like it was no big deal. He wanted it to be him in there not his son, it wasn't fair.
Putting the phone down, he sat down in a chair. Eric ran his fingers through his hair, his eyes closed. Maybe if he closed them long enough, he could wake up from this nightmare. Seeing Esperanza, he got up. Holding her close, looking at her. Eric was a bad liar, his eyes where so expressive and his facial expressions. It was hard for him to lie, instead he smiled. This wasn't the time to make a joke or make light with his usual charm. "Its gonna be okay, I promise." He said trying to sound confident.
What Eric wanted to do was throw up, he wanted to find a dark place and throw up. "He will survive." Giving the doctor a look of that's my son in there so shut up. Putting his arm around Esperanza, pulling her close. "He's gonna be okay and its early I mean...it hasn't spread?" Eric said shaking no Andres was gonna be gonna be okay.

This was one of the worst parts about being a doctor, telling people that a family member is sick or no longer with them. But then there was there moments where it was all worth while telling them someone is better or fine. But this was one of those moments most every doctor hated. He frowned a bit hearing the questions of Andres's parents. He heard the mother he was assuming ask if the tests were conclusive and he nodded. " Yes, yes they are. We have taken various tests and scans and it all leads to cancer.." the doctor explained. " I'm sorry... would you like to see the papers and scans. It will show where is is at and where we fear it could spread?" he asked them staring down at the clipboard in front of him.
He heard the guy speak up now saying that Andres would survive. The doctor frowned once again. " We hope he will.. if he gets the right treatment then he just might. But if you guys do not let him go through chemo there really is no chance. You have less then a week to decided or it may spread and once it starts to spread it is really not that easy to stop the spreading.. He may loose a lung.." the doctor explained he knew he sounded harsh but he had to at some point. He had to tell them the truth not beat it around the bush. He shook his head now. " No, it has not spread. Not yet." he stated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile Andres had just gotten out of another scan. He had still been passed out. But he probable would of awoken by now if they had not put him to sleep. They did not want to end up hurting him anymore then he already was with the tests and scans they had been poking and prying him and if you were too look at him his head was bruised and his arms had bandages on them and were starting to bruise. Andres finally woke up groaning as he did he felt worse now then he did when he first fell at the match. He opened his eyes and glanced around where the heck was he and who were all these people? Was his first though people were crowding around him and he turned his head wanting to speak but he felt a bit weak at the moment so he closed his eyes again maybe he was just dreaming and when he woke up he would just simple be at home in his nice bed waking up to his alarm clock soon without all these people surrounding him.

The words the doctor spoke seemed to go in one ear and somehow disappear on their way to her brain. She was having difficulty processing the information the doctor was telling her, it was just too much for her to take in all at once. Esperanza listened quietly to her husband questioning the doctor, her hand tightening around his waist as the answers they received back concerned her. The doctor didn’t seem at all sure about if he would survive or not and the uncertainty was driving her crazy.
She knew that they needed to get the treatment started immediately but there where something’s she wanted to ask first. “What about side effects? Of the treatment I mean? And…what type of cancer is it?” she asked wanting to know what awful disease was infecting her poor boy. But another thing was bothering her, the fact that Andres was a twin, did that mean that as they where very similar genetically that Beau could very well be carrying it too? “And are you aware that Andres is an identical twin? Is it possible Beau might carry the same thing?” she asked uncertainly glancing at Eric worriedly.
She looked at Eric again knowing too well the worry and the thoughts that would be going through his head for they where going through hers as well “We need to tell him…” she said knowing that telling him would be heart breaking, it seemed their family was going to be pushed to its limits again and Esperanza could only hope they could get through it in one piece. All of them.
Esperanza could feel the tension Eric was carrying and she knew that it would not only be hard for them as parents but for London and Beau as well. Her worry was that while all there attention was quite rightly focused on getting Andres better, they would miss the problems the others where going through. She could only promise herself that she would try her best to be there for her children, but she didn’t know how well she could hold up. And she worried about Eric, he’d always been the rock in the family but this was different, she knew he would give his life for his children and so she could not predict how he would react to this horrible news.

You'll remember me when the west wind moves Among the fields of barley You can tell the sun in his jealous sky When we walked in fields of gold
"He's not gonna loose anything, I mean he's young and if you do your job, my son will be okay." He said trying to keep his emotions down. Eric didn't wanna hear this, not about his son. His thoughts where on his kids right now, London and Beau. Oh god, how was he gonna tell those two. Eric would figure something out. He hated being the strong one but someone had to. Looking at his wife, "Cancer is not genetic. my dad died of a heart attack not cancer. I think we should go with chemo, it sucks. But we have no chose." He said Eric would kill for his family both figuratively and literally.
He kissed the top of Esperanza's head, why was stuff like this keep happening. He was worried about London,Beau, & especially his wife. Poor woman, been through enough already. He had to be strong for his wife, god knows how this making her feel with her depression. Now this, he wanted to take that pain way. He kept her protectively close, "I'll tell him, you don't need the added stress."

The doctor heard more questions being thrown at him he was expecting this he always was expecting this. " Well, if he goes through chemo he will loose his hair thats about one of the first thing that starts to happen. It may be best if you just shave his head right away so he does not loose it in lumps. He will also be puking quite a lot and go through flashes of being miserable hot and sometimes cold. And sometimes there moods change I'm not sure if Andres's mood will change but everyone reacts different to chemo." he stated. He heard the question about what type and frowned. " It's lung cancer.. but only on the left side we want to prevent it from moving over to the next lung. He may need to remove his left lung to make sure it's completely gone then and may need a doner. We are not entirely sure though because chemo may change that.." he stated. " We need to do more research on him to see what would be best for Andre's case.." he said.
The doctor shook his head as she asked if her other son might have cancer. " Well, it would be good if you got him checked out. But cancer is not the type of thing that if a family member has it another family member will automatically get it too. Although its been known for twins to feel pain when there other twin is in pain and there may be signs of that. But you should probable still get him checked out.." he ended. The doctor then pointed to a room behind him and added in " Andres is right in that room..."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Andres had drifted off to sleep for another mere ten minutes when he woke up again he realized he was in the same place. " Where am I?" he asked in a weak voice as a nurse walked over to him and answered ' the hospital now take this' [/i]Andres shook his head pushing away the pill there was no way he was taking anything from someone he didn't know and didn't know what it was for. " No!" he stated stubbornly and the nurse once again tried to make him take it. " No!" he said again. " I want to see my parents. Where are they?" he asked. ' there not here right now' the nurse tried to explain as he continued to shake his head pulling away from the nurse.[/blockquote][/size]

Esperanza listened to Eric talking hoping that he was right and that their son would recover fully. Why was it, she thought, that these awful things happened to her family? The more the doctor talked about Andres’s treatment the more terrible it sounded and the more concerned she became about her sons health. She turned to Eric and looked him fully in the eyes, “I want to get Beau checked out, just to be sure” she said, knowing it would give her piece of mind if she knew he was safe.
She paused for a moment gathering her strength before looking Eric back in the eyes again, “And I want to be there…when you tell Andres, its not fair for me to not be there, it would be selfish of me” she said worried that if she wasn’t there Andres would think she didn’t love him and had abandoned him. She wondered if she could hold it together but there was something inside her telling her she couldn’t let her family down like she had done before with the depression. There was a better time and place for her to get over emotional and now was not it.
" Andres is right in that room..."
Esperanza nodded at the doctor, “Thank you for you help” she said before looking back at Eric trying to gather some more strength off him, only the look on this face made her realize how one of her worst fears had come true. She couldn’t imagine loosing a child, it was something parents never expected to do, and they always assume they will be the first ones to go. So when faced with a situation like this Esperanza could not help but think of the what ifs.
"I want to see my parents. Where are they?"
Esperanza heard Andres’s voice drift towards them from the other room, she shot Eric a worried look before quickly turning and entering the room. Before she realized it she was beside his bed leaning over him and stroking his soft brown hair from his face. “Shhh” she cooed trying to calm him down, “Its okay we’re here”.
She looked back at Eric not knowing what to do next, this was too much for her and she knew if she spoke again her voice may crack and she may loose it completely. And that would not be very reassuring for what was to be a very frightened young boy, so instead she kissed him softly on the forehead and gave him what she hoped was a reassuring smile.

Eric nodded she should be there, she should be there with their son. He just didn't know, who would break down and cry first him or her. Eric smiled looking back at his wife, he put on a brave when inside he was worried and sacred. He didn't wanna hear anymore, it all sounded like gloom and doom. So he blocked it out, if he thought a bad thought. Eric didn't want to think about it, taking a deep breathe he followed Esperzona into the room.
He didn't see Andres sitting there, he saw that little baby. The one the doctors handed him in the delievery room. Blocking it out of his mind, he smiled at Andres. "Hey, you gave us a bit of a sacre there." He said sounding like it was no big deal, like Andres had just fallen down and got a bump.
"Andres, I need you to listen okay." Eric held his emtions back, didn't let his voice crack. There would time for that later, he needed to be strong right. Eric sat on the bed and looked at Andres, he was forcing himself to look at him. "Your sick Andres, your very very sick. You have lung cancer, don't worry people live through this. And its just a little lump in your chest, won't spread. They just gotta give you medicine, to stop it and get rid of it. Its gonna make you tried and weak, but your mom and I aren't going anywhere I promise. Your not gonna go through this alone." He said taking Andres' hand in his, lacing the fingers together.
So she took her love, for to gaze awhile, among the fields of barley In his arms she fell as her hair came down among the fields of gold

Andres heard the familiar voice of his mothers and sighed in relief when he saw her. He knew he was in the hospital now but there was still no way he was going to take some random pills from someone he didn't know and didn't know why he even needed them all he did was pass out and that happened to people all the time and then they were just fine. He heard the nurse speak up once again. ' Can you make your son take these so he does not get anymore sick then he is..' the nurse said handing Esperanza the pills. As Andres gave the nurse a glare and whispered to his mother. " I think she is trying to potion me.." he said with a weak laugh jokingly. Andres really did not understand why everyone looks so worried he was fine. Just a bump on his head all he did was faint. He would be just fine tomorrow or well he thought so anyways.
He laughed a bit as his dad had said he gave them a scare and shrugged his shoulders. " Sorry, didn't mean too.." he stated. He heard his dad say he needed to listen now and he frowned a bit. What was going on. Why was everyone being so serious and still worrying he was up now and he was going to be able to go home soon and wake up tomorrow and it would be as if nothing happened right? Although knowing his mom she would probable be keeping a closer eye on him but he was still fine in his mind anyways. Then he remembered the soccer match. " Who won today?" he asked ignoring his dad about listening because that was all he was thinking of right now was soccer.
But then when his dad started talking about him being sick he frowned and started to pay attention. He had cancer? Was this a joke? He was fine last he knew he started to shake his head and then laughed not believing it they were joking right? " Very funny!" he stated shaking his head still. " When can I go home?" he asked his parents with a grin still not believing he had cancer although deep down he knew they were not joking but he was having a hard time admitting this to himself.

((OCC: Sorry it took me so long to post and then I posted crap, having muse issues!))
' Can you make your son take these so he does not get anymore sick then he is..'
Esperanza turned and glared at the nurse not liking her tact, she didn’t want her son anymore worried than he would be “I will make sure he does” she said taking the medicine off her with and icy glare “Would you mind giving us a minute?” she asked keeping her tone short. She turned to her son with a smile and started to stroke his forehead again, “She’s not trying to poison you, you need to take your meds so you will be strong” she said glancing at Eric worriedly.
" Who won today?"
Esperanza smiled at her son, his head always seemed to be in the game, she couldn’t bare to think that they had to tell him that he wouldn’t be able to play for a very long time. “Listen to what your father has to say” she said kindly her heart picking up the pace as she wondered how her son would react to the news.
As Eric explained to Andres Esperanza found she couldn’t tear her eyes away from her sons face, as Andres denied what Eric was telling him she couldn’t help but let the tears well up in her eyes. She tried to speak but she couldn’t find the words and an odd choking sound came from her.
She looking over to Eric desperately hoping he could say what she couldn’t.

Oh god don't make him repeat it. He officially hated that word and he hated having to say it even more. "Andres, I'm telling you the truth. You have lung cancer, I know this is hard but we're a family, we can do this together." He said looking him dead in the eye. Eric was forcing himself to say it and look at him. This was hard enough for him, he could believe what pain Andres must be going through.
Looking at Esperanza, he held her hand too. Why did he have to be the strong one?, he wanted this nightmare to be over. The family been through enough and Eric didn't know if he could take anymore. "Look, I know this sucks. Believe me I wish it was me and not you. You are stronger than this and we are going to get through this." He leaned over and kissed Andres' forehead. It sounded like Eric was trying to convince himself more than Andres.
Eric bite, his lip fearing the reaction when it finally sank in. It wasn't fully sinking in with him. He didn't wanna say it anymore and he didn't wanna be here anymore. Eric wanted to just take his son home and not think about this crap anymore.

The nurse simple shrugged as she was asked to leave and left shutting the door behind her. Andres let out a fake weak laugh as his mom told him he needed to take his meds to be strong. " Mom, you already know I'm strong. I am a soccer player after all.." he stated with a grin on his face but grabbed his pills anyways and took them and chocked a bit the nurse had gave him water but he decided to try and take them without water and they were not really small at all. he started to cough so he grabbed his water taking a drink now.
He heard his mom now tell him to listen to his father and heard his dad once again repeat he had lung cancer. He shook his head over and over again swallowing hard. " No! No I don't!" he said pulling away from his parents so they were both no longer touching him anymore as he continued to shake his head. He was near tears but there was no way he was going to cry no here not know he was trying to be strong although he still did not want to believe it. How could he have cancer? He played sports he was always active, he ate healthy most of the times. But he had a splurge for cookies once in awhile after all it was his favorite thing to eat. Then he muttered to himself. " It's the cookies.. I blame the cookies.." he then looked up at his parents. " I blame you guys.. you bought me cookies!" he stated shaking his head now. Then frowning knowing he probable should not have just blamed them because honestly he did not blame them cookies do not cause cancer. He sighed a bit now.
He glanced at his parents still shaking his head. " I am strong.." he paused. " And I will get through this.. I have too..." he paused. " I don't want to die.. please don't let me die.." he said the last bit in a low voice in almost a pleading voice as if he was begging now to live. He glanced at his dad who had earlier said he wished that it had been hisself and not him and shook his head. " Dad, I'm glad it's not you thats sick.. I rather have it be me... Maybe because I'm younger I can take the sickness better and sense you are old after all you won't be able to take it as easy..." Andres said in a sort of joking matter about his old age. But deep down he knew that cancer probable hit everyone the same it didn't matter what age you were.

Esperanza’s hand tightened around Eric’s as she watched the information sink in it was difficult watching him jump from conclusion to conclusion as to why this was happening to him as the truth was he just happened to be one of those unlucky souls who developed the illness. She waited for him to calm down as he blamed things like ‘cookies’ for his condition. He finally stopped jumping to conclusions and was quiet for a moment, Esperanza waited nervously for him to say something.
" I don't want to die.. please don't let me die.."
This was too much for Esperanza, the tears cascaded down her face as she reached back for Andres’s hand “You won’t die Andres, you are strong and medicine today is much more advanced” she said her voice cracking several times as she spoke.
" Dad, I'm glad it's not you thats sick.. I rather have it be me... Maybe because I'm younger I can take the sickness better and sense you are old after all you won't be able to take it as easy..."
Esperanza smiled weakly at least he had not lost his sense of humor something he got from his dad, “You may be sick Andres but that doesn’t mean your going to get away with being cheeky!” she said trying to be reprimanding but hoping this meant the illness wasn’t going to break his spirit. Esperanza thought that Beau would certainly help cheer up Andres in his worst moments.
“We’ve spoken to the doctor and he’s going to start the treatment immediately, this should catch the cancer before it spreads” Esperanza looked back to Eric “And both of us will be here throughout the treatment, you wont be alone through this you have us and your brother and sister” she said trying to inject hope and strength into not just herself but the rest of the family. She wondered what had happened to those days where all they had to worry about was what grade London got in her SAT’s or if Beau and Andres where keeping out of Mischief. She missed those days and the days that they spent in the garden or park being together, being a family.

And they cut into my skin And they cut into my body But they will never get a piece of my soul
Eric bite his lip, he couldn't look at him now. He felt like Andres was right, it was his fault. Maybe he did do something wrong. Maybe Eric didn't take him to the doctor enough or spend enough time with him. Maybe the whole mess with him in mother caused to much stress on the kids. God, he wanted to be the one laying in the stupid hospital bed.
Seeing Esperanza cry, he wrapped his arms around her. Holding her close, "Honey, don't cry okay. it gonna be fine." He kissed her cheeks as the tears came down. "I'm sorry." He said looking at Andres. Maybe he shouldn't have let him have that Oreo cookie mini pack before dinner. Hearing the old comment, Eric laughed. Lightly hitting the boy with a pillow, "I am not old. Maybe when you chose your hair, we can paint it like a big soccer ball." He said trying to lighten the mood.
Eric got up, he need to get out of the room. Plus now he wanted cookies, "All these cookie talk is making me want some." He said walking off in search of a snack machine. Eric found one, down the hall. He closed his eyes and swallowed hard, before getting the pack of vanilla waivers. Walking back to the room, eating his cookies.
