Esme was sat behind her desk in her office, it was only lunch time but to her it felt like the evening already. She’d been working with the year sevens on a drama project they where meant to be performing at a local nursing home, only at the moment their piece was not fit to be shown to anyone. She sighed to herself as she glanced up gazing out of the window onto the lawn where students had started to filter out for lunch.
She wished lunch would never end so she wouldn’t have to leave her comfy chair and office to return to the drama studio but sadly time didn’t follow her bidding and she knew it wouldn’t be long before she was stood by the stage watching them waste the valuable time she had given them to practice. She had tried encouraging them with improvisation games but it seemed it hadn’t enlightened them as to what they wanted to do and Esme was very close to writing the play for them, something she didn’t like to do.
Esperanza opened the draw in her desk and pulled out several piles of letters she had been given by the receptionist to read. Perfect. Just how she wanted to spend her lunch, but it seemed her position in the school demanded her attention towards a lot of things and a break just wasn’t acceptable. She pushed her long blonde hair from her face and tiredly started to read the first letter.
It was then her attention was diverted to the door by a loud knock, if this was a student who’d been sent to her to deal with then she wasn’t going to be happy. She leaned back casually in her chair and ran her hands through her hair as she tried to relax and stop her mind from worrying.
“Come in” she said as calmly as she could waiting expectantly to see who it would be this time.

The sound of old boots echoed from the empty hallway, it was empty cause the student population had moved to the lunch area outside. He looked around and smiled, taking off in a run before sidling down the hall, stopping with a squeak. Standing up, he dusted himself, off. Thinking he was alone, he was surprised to hear the laugher of two female students headed outside. Eric blushed and waved politely before continuing on. He couldn't resist the floor was screaming slide. Eric did things like that, his wife often called him the 4th child.
Eric sometimes, didn't know if she was saying that as a joke or did she actually mean it. He decided to be nice and see her, it was break time. Plus he hoped the fact, he brought a surprise would help. Hidden behind, his back was a rose. It was a token of love and a peace offering, She been so depressed lately. He often didn't know, if he was going to get his head bitten off or not. Sometimes, he got so fat up, he yelled. "Mrs. Stone, I'm Eric. And I'm here to serve my lunch detention." He said opening the door, stepping inside, he smiled.
Gosh, he can be so cute sometimes. Wearing a black jacket, dress shirt, those tron at the knee jeans with those ratty old boots. "For you." His hand slipped out from behind his back, handing her the rose. Giving her a kiss, he walked past her, taking a seat spinning around in the seat. He finally stopped, grabbing her desk stopping himself.

"Mrs. Stone, I'm Eric. And I'm here to serve my lunch detention."
Esperanza couldn’t help let a smile cross her lips as her other half entered the room, his childish humor generally had her laughing although of late she had felt less inclined to laugh. She shushed him as he said that glancing behind him as he came in several students walked past laughing loudly. “Honestly Eric you need to be more discrete! We can’t have rumors flying around about what happens in my office!” she said trying to be serious but failing miserably as her eyes fell on a rose that he had pulled out from behind his back.
She had barely batted an eyelid at the way he spun around in the chair in front of her desk living with him for as long as she had she had become accustomed to his flamboyant ways. “Eric you shouldn’t have!” she exclaimed obviously pleased with the effort he had made. She took the rose from him and smelt it; she loved the scent of roses and it always made her feel more relaxed.
She looked back to the man that sat in front of her desk, to Esme there where two types of people. Type one was her type, the type of person who merely grew older and nothing remarkable continued to grow from the way she looked. The other type was Eric, the type of person who’s looks thrived with age and sometimes she wondered what had happened to that young man she had met, not that she was complaining she adored her husband. It was just sometimes she felt very inferior sat next to him with her stretch marks and sometimes exhausted looking face.
She smiled again at him as she removed the set of withering flowers she had on her desk from a vase and placed the rose into it. “Thank you, it’s beautiful” she said leaning across the desk and placing a kiss firmly on his lips. She knew to well how her often bouts of depression effected not just her children but her husband as well. She still loved them dearly but it was something she couldn’t control and only with the medicine the doctor prescribed did she ever feel the way she used to.

He sighed, he was just playing. Sometimes, Eric got sick of being snapped at all the time. He ignored the scolding and spun around once again in the chair. "Could you take the mean lady mask off for a minute." He said stopping himself with his feet planting them firmly on the floor. Eric folded his hands in his lap, god he looked like a teenager sitting there like that. He was well aware about Esperanza's image issues. Frankly, he didn't' care. Eric thought she was as beautiful as the day, they met. But she wouldn't believe him . And he been trying to tell her that, that he didn't care about the stretch marks. Woman had given him three beautiful children, she was allowed. And her face, he liked it best when he was making her smile or waking up to see it. But all that seemed to come out was the wrong words.
"I'm glad, you like it." He said yay, peace offering worked. When she kissed him, he kissed her back. "I think, I'm going to enjoy, this detention." Eric kissed her again, it been awhile since either actually did anything romantic. The closest it got was they went out to a movie and he had a bad reaction to the movie. It was a romantic comedy, total cheesy, chick movie and in the middle of it. Eric starts throwing popcorn screaming i want my life back. I want 10 mins of my life back, people laughed at him. And She got so mad and they both got kicked out.
Aside from that, it wasn't romantic in their house-hold. "I made you lunch." He said handing her the house of Wong Chinese food take out bag. "I even made desert." He handed her a fortune cookie.

"Could you take the mean lady mask off for a minute."
Esperanza smiled weakly at this knowing too well that Eric became tired of her ‘nagging’ but someone had to think like an adult or else the whole household would go to shambles. She knew very well if he had his way the twins would be building some sort of den on the roof and firing off fireworks all day and night.
She kissed him back one more time with a coy smile on her face before glancing down at Eric’s version of lunch. She could easily reprimand him on eating healthily but when she looked at his face she couldn’t do it. He’d made an effort to bridge the gap that had fallen between them the last few days and that meant a lot to her.
“Wow you made it all by yourself? I am impressed!” she said with a laugh opening the bag and pulling out the contents. She hadn’t realized how hungry she was until he smelt the food in front of her. “Looks good Mr Stone” she said with a slight chuckle.
Esperanza thought about the last time they had spent time together, it hadn’t turned out the way she hoped and he’d ruined the evening with his usual antics. It was a shame she thought that they couldn’t spend an evening together, but maybe they could do something as a family? Take the twins and London out somewhere, where they could just be a family. “You know what I think would be nice?” she said dipping her fork into a box of sweet and sour rice, “Would be for us to take the kids out somewhere…although this time lets not go to a restaurant” she had painful memories of them going to a very posh restaurant and the twins started a food fight in which the rest of the family joined in, she ended up having to usher the family out apologizing for the mess and leaving a large tip for the waiters. It was only when she got back to the house did she see the funny side of the evening, and they spent the rest of the night in the back yard playing a rather amusing game of football.

"Yes, I did." He was teasing, happy for once he didn't have to hear. Eric you can't eat junk food, your setting a bad example for the kids. He would eat pizza, cookies, & candy all the time if even the chance. His wife made sure he ate healthy, even if he acted as if she was poisoning him. "Thank you, honey." He grabbed the sweet and sour chicken, taking a bite. He took the chicken and threw a piece into the air putting his head back, catching the piece in his mouth. Before sitting up, quickly putting the chicken back. Trying to act as if he didn't do anything, he put his hands back in his lap.
"I didn't start that, I just didn't want people thinking my kids couldn't through a piece cake right. Plus that place sucked anyway, the Waiter was rude." He said trying to justify his actions. Eric didn't start it, but he didn't have to join in and use the waitress as a human shield from flying soup. Taking a bite, of the chow mien he sighed. Trying to think of something they could do. "I don't know, maybe this weekend we can go for a ride on my bike." the motorcycle, the Harley Davidson his last stand against growing up. He had that thing since college and he loved to ride it on weekends. Take long drives along the country side. "I got an extra helmet, if you ever wanna go back on it. I promise no wheelies this time."

Esperanza raised an eyebrow at her husband but didn’t say anything about the way he was playing with his food she’d taken a vow not to nag him for a while…well at least for today anyway.
…Plus that place sucked anyway, the Waiter was rude."
Esperanza couldn’t help but laugh out loud at that statement, “Oh the waiter was rude was he?” she said in an amused manner, “he was rude to ask you to leave after you pulled that poor waitress in the way of that soup? Bless her she was nearly in tears!” even though Esperanza was trying to be serious she couldn’t help but smile at the image of Eric’s pretend astonishment at the fact the soup was heading his way.
Esperanza thought for a moment considering the option of his bike, she had never worried too much about his safety or the kid’s safety on the bike because she knew he wouldn’t do anything to endanger them but the thought of riding it made her nauseous. When they where younger he used to take her out on the old bike but now the speeds and the way the wind battled against you trying to knock you off was too much to bare…but it would be nice to take the car and the bike and go down to the park for a picnic…Eric could take one of the twins on the bike on the way there and the other one on the bike on the way back.
She smiled, that way she could avoid riding it although she suspected once they arrived he’d be trying to get her on it for a ride around the park…still…she could hope.
“How about me taking the car and you the bike and we take the kids down for a picnic in the park this weekend” she liked this idea as she couldn’t see much room for disaster. It wouldn’t matter if Eric fell in the pond or if a food fight started because it would be just them.

"Our daughter threw the soup, I was an Innocent by dandered. The girl was not crying, she got soup in her eye." He said putting his hands up in a defensive manner, as if she would throw something at him. Eric bite his lip, Esperanza always knew how to make him feel like he was six years old. It pissed him off but in this moment, he just wanted to be civil. World War III did not need to be started, right now anyway. He picked his battles and knew when to shut up. "Open your mouth, come on it will be fun." He took a piece of chicken with his chop sticks, "Alright, all you gotta do is catch it." Eric wanted until her mouth was open and threw the chicken toward her hopefully open mouth.
There was nothing, more important than his family. Even if he did act like the fourth child, He actually was hoping the kids could drive their and she would ride with him. But it was a long shot. He did have some grown up in him, "Wow, your beautiful when you smile." He said flirting with his wife. His dark eyes, looking her up and down before moving back to her face. His dark brow hair, fall nicely over his face. He smiled, his soft pink mouth forming a prefect smile. "Why not forget the kids." He got up moving closer to his wife. His hands gently resting on her waist, "Just you and me, we don't have to take the bike. And I promise,I'll behave. Unless you don't want me too."
His mouth found her ear lope, kissing it before moving to her neck kissing it. Reaching over, he opened her fortune cookie, "See even the cookie says to." He pulled out the little paper pretending to read it.

..Open your mouth, come on it will be fun."
Esperanza was caught off guard as he threw the chicken in her direction, it was a good thing she had quite good coordination as she managed to catch it with her teeth. She munched on the chicken rather indignantly as she looked at Eric with vengeful eyes, she was going to get him back for that! She picked up another piece of chicken and threw it back at him playfully “catch!” she said with a smug smile waiting to see if he caught it or not, although she hoped he didn’t so she could be even more smug.
Esperanza’s heart sped up as he approached her placing his hands gently on her waist, it was funny she thought how he still had the same effect on her as he had done when they first met. It was a nice thing to realize and she couldn’t help but feel comforted by the thought. She realized that they hadn’t really spent time together and maybe that’s what Eric was missing, she hadn’t really been herself and maybe he was feeling a little neglected.
She smiled at him before kissing him tenderly on the lips, letting her hands creep up his face to his hair as she ran her hands through it gently “Mr Stone,” she said teasingly “you never behave whether I ask you to or not”.
She smiled as he read the fortune, “of course the cookie says to” she said with a grin, “Because cookies have that all knowing power” she said with a smile. “Okay, okay” she said holding her hand up in surrender, “if the cookie says so then I guess we can do something together, so long as it doesn’t involve the bike” she said resting her head on his shoulder.

He missed just being her husband,he felt like he was just there sometimes. And other times, when the frustration got too much, he wanted to be something than a person to argue and call childish. When she threw the chicken at him, he caught it in is mouth. Thankfully he figured, she would do sometime like this.
"I do behave, unlike some people. Who behave a little too." He said "You where always the more grown up one." He liked the feel of her hands running through his hair. Been a long time. since they had any physical contact like this. Eric moved one hand lower, touch her leg. Kissing her back, he smiled. "Yes cookie, is all knowing and you know what else the cookie says" He picked her up off the desk, spinning her around in arms.
Before gently putting her down on the desk, "And it also says since you hate the bike so much. I promise we can use the car." He said

“I was always the grown up one eh?” she said a smile playing across her lips, “well it’s not fair if you get all the fun” she said putting on a pout, however the pout quickly evaporated when she felt his hand softly against her leg and it was replaced with yet another smile. Esperanza couldn’t remember the last time she had smiled so much, it felt good to suddenly be free of all the clouds that had followed her around threatening to rain on her at any minute.
Esperanza let out a little cry of surprise as he lifted her as if she weighed no more than a dried leave and spun her around to place her on the desk “Oh the cookies too kind” she said in reply to the fact they could take the car. Esperanza wrapped her hands around Eric’s waist and pulled him closer to her “So Where does the cookie say we are going?” she asked playing along with the little game.
She decided at least Eric’s little tendency to be very laid back had its perks especially when she needed cheering up like she needed so much lately.

"Don't worry, if you ever decided to let your hair down or let loose I'll be here to help." He said smirking being pulled closer, he kissed her again. Now he understood, the fantasy of a locked office and a beautiful woman on the desk. "The cookie knows all and sees all, it will reveal its wonders all in good time." Eric had an idea in his a romantic picnic making sure to go a little late, so they could watch the sunset and have a nice moon light stroll. What happened after,we'll would make him very happy and no doubt his wife as well.
His hand traveled up to face gently caressing her cheek. "You my lovely wife are a gorgeous mother of three beautiful children." He pulled away and moved the stairs out so there was some room. Turning on the radio, a love song played on the radio. Holding his hand out, "May I have this dance may lady."

"Don't worry, if you ever decided to let your hair down or let loose I'll be here to help."
Esme smiled shyly at Eric, “I’m sure you will be” she glancing at the floor, although she and Eric and been through a lot and she had no need to feel shy around him she couldn’t help but feel like they where starting their relationship again, after everything they had been through they where starting again, repairing what had been damaged while she had been suffering from post-natal depression. She often felt guilty for what she had caused but as the doctor had told her many times, it was out of her control and often something women experienced after having children.
"May I have this dance may lady."
Esperanza blushed slightly but pulled herself off the table and walked towards him, stopping a few inches away she looked at him with a smile on her face “of course you can kind sir” she said gently curtsying before walking towards him and placing her right hand in his and her left hand on his shoulder. She rested her head on his shoulder as they swayed in time to the music, she like being so close to him she felt suddenly safe in his arms like nothing could reach her there.
“So how long will I have to wait until the cookie lets me know where we are going?” she asked, wondering if they could drop the cookie analogy as she realized how odd she must sound saying that. She let her left hand travel tenderly up his neck towards his hair and then back again as she waited for his response.

He smiled taking the lead and moving with the music, he missed this. Eric missed being her husband and being close. Eric wished there was more moments like this, where they could just act like a married couple for crying out loud. When she curtsyed, he bowed. Before trying not laugh at himself, he felt like he was at a ball or something. Been along time since those things, god how he hated being pushed on the nearest girl, his parents found suitable for him. "You dance beautifully Mrs. Stone." He said taking the lead from her moving to the music.
Being kinda smooth, he twirled her around. He kept her close after that, smelling her hair. He loved the smell of her perfume and how she fit so nicely in his arms. Kissing her cheek, "I love you." He whispered into her ear. "I'd tell you but than it wouldn't be a surprise.''

Esperanza moved with him following his lead she twirled before being pulled gently back towards him, “Why thank you Mr. Stone” she said sincerely as she wrapped her arms around his neck and nibbled his ear tenderly, the words of love he spoke to her made her feel wonderfully secure. She smiled whispering back “I love you more” with a smile hoeing it wouldn’t turn into one of those petty arguments and ruin the moment.
Esperanza leaned back to look her husband in the eyes, he had such lovely dark eyes she would sometimes forget she’d been staring at him for so long as she lost herself in them. She smiled again “A surprise?” she said gently “We both know how awful you are at keep these things secret” she of course was thinking back to the night of their first anniversary he had been so excited about the evening he had planned he had told her about it before he remembered it was meant to be a surprise. Esperanza found it endearing but he had been very cross with himself for spoiling it.
She kissed him softly on the lips again “surprise me if you want, I’m sure it will be a wonderful day” she said resting her head back on his shoulder and closing her eyes.
